Composition
Each tablet contains:
Chlorphenoxamine hydrochloride ......................... 20 mg
Caffeine ......................................................................... 50 mg
Therapeutic Indications
Itching skin conditions e.g. eczema, urticaria and other conditions associated with pruritus e.g. diabetes, insect bites, hay fever, serum sickness, drug allergy, and allergic gastroenteritis.
Dosage and Administration
1-2 tablets 2-3 times daily.
Contraindications
Car and machinery drivers should bear in mind that ALLERGEX CAFFEINE may induce drowsiness.
ALLERGEX CAFFEINE as other antihistaminics possessing anticholinergic properties should not be given to patients suffering from narrow-angle glaucoma or prostatic enlargement.
Undesirable Effects
In highly sensitive patients, ALLERGEX CAFFEINE may produce dryness of the mouth.
Pharmacological Properties
ALLERGEX CAFFEINE contains chlorphenoxamine hydrochloride which possesses a potent long-lasting antihistaminic action and is well tolerated.
In addition chlorphenoxamine hydrochloride has anticholinergic and sedative effects. The anticholinergic properties of chlorphenoxamine hydrochloride are useful in treating allergic conditions associated with undesirable cholinergic activity.
Caffeine has a central stimulant action and counteracts the sedative effect of chlorphenoxamine hydrochloride which may lead to weariness in the susceptible patient.
Thus, ALLERGEX CAFFEINE is a so called Day time antihistaminic for such patients.
